Position Purpose

Advises management, senior management and the International Office regarding international student admissions, providing expertise on the international education system, the management of the admissions business process, admission requirements, new programs and the setting of quotas, special upgrading courses, financial aid and awards programs, and immigration laws regarding student visas. Applies international student admission criteria and develops ways to improve business processes and customer service as part of the University’s internationalization strategy. Identifies and examines problems with the international admissions process, makes recommendations to those who are primarily involved and implements tailored solutions. Acts as a resource person for students, admissions officers, faculty and sector admissions managers, and student advisors in high schools and postsecondary institutions worldwide.

Essential Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, preferably international development and globalization, modern languages and literatures, psychology, or social sciences
Two years of experience in a relevant field
In-depth knowledge of University of Ottawa structures and programs
In-depth knowledge of high school and university structures and programs in Canada and abroad
Knowledge of immigration and student visa procedures
Experience in interpreting, applying and explaining regulations and procedures
Experience in serving a multicultural clientele
Experience in analyzing, assessing and managing academic records
Customer service experience as a resource person
Experience in the use of computer systems and software, such as Microsoft Windows, the Student Information System and other admissions systems, word processors, databases, email programs and the Internet

Other competencies:

Willingness to travel abroad; flexible working hours may be required
Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written); to be considered for this position, candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced or higher proficiency level for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language. The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.


Contract until August 31st 2015, with possibility of renewal. Eligibility to benefits and union affiliation will be determined upon hiring.
