Position Purpose

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Advisor, Faculties and Services provides comprehensive strategic direction and leadership to University stakeholders within faculties and services. The incumbent will provide expert advice to staff and communications/marketing officers to effectively leverage best practices and resources that may ultimately lead to significant improvements in communicating deliverables and creating cost-effective solutions for the University of Ottawa. The Communications Advisor oversees the numerous activities of the large network of communications officers (143); these activities represent a global amount of approximately eight (8) million dollars annually.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelorís degree from a recognized university in communications or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
A minimum of five (5) years experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic communications and marketing plans
Experience using software and computer programs such as: Windows, work processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail and Internet

Client Service Orientation: Help or serve others to meet their needs. This implies anticipating and identifying the needs of internal and external clients and finding solutions on how to meet them.
Teamwork and Cooperation: Cooperate and work well with other members of the team to reach common goal(s). Accept and give constructive feedback. Able to adjust own behaviour to reach the goals of the team.

Other competencies:

Seasoned individual with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Proven analytical skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks for various stakeholders
Proven leadership and project management skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills in both official languages
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, some travel involved

Note

Temporary assignment or contract of 6 months, with possibility of renewal. Eligibility to benefits and union affiliation will be determined upon hiring.
