The Senior Systems Administrator role is responsible for all aspects of the distributed systems environment, with a focus on Windows, VMware, and hardware. The responsibilities of this role include project participation, project implementation, systems design, third tier technical support and day-to-day administration. Some middleware support is required focusing on Business Objects Enterprise, Citrix Metaframe and XenApp, Microsoft Exchange 2010, and Blackberry Exchange Server 5 and 10.

Key Accountabilities:

• Participation in designing and researching infrastructure solutions
• Participation as part of the project team to implement, test and document new server/software solutions.
• Provide implementation support throughout all phases of a given project.
• Provide third tier technical support for operating systems and related systems software (including 7/24 pager support).
• Assist with the preparation and maintenance of systems design documentation.
• Provide research and development to ensure that the systems infrastructure is well positioned to support current and emerging distributed systems solutions.
• Maintain and promote open communication with application developers, systems integrators, operators, network analysts and other key IT departments, outlining and evolving the distributed systems engineering standards.
• Maintenance of systems administration documentation, including outlining the current systems, administration policies and practices as applied to the administered systems.
• Maintenance and support of Metaframe and XenApp environments for about 100 users, including Access Gateway, Web Interface.
• Maintenance and support for Exchange 2010 and Domino in a 2000 user environment.
• Maintenance and support for BES 5 & 10, and Good For Enterprise for approximately 500 users.

Must Have Skills:

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that sees things through to completion. Attention to detail is important, as is the keen desire and ability to learn new technologies. Some key skills include:
• 4+ years of progressive experience in system administration in a distributed environment.
• Advanced knowledge of Windows 2003/2008 Server and Active Directory, as well as a theoretical and practical level of experience with distributed client server systems technologies including operating systems, sub-systems, enterprise services, database technologies, network infrastructure and desktop interfaces. Windows 2012 experience and asset.
• 2+ years of progressive experience with deploying and managing VMWare ESX/VSphere.
• Candidates with strong MS Exchange theoretical and practical knowledge will be given preference.
• Candidates with at least some knowledge and interest in UNIX or Linux based operating systems will be given preference.
• Proven ability in developing and deploying enterprise system administration practices and procedures, such as batch files, Group Policy and general scripting (PERL, PowerShell, etc.).
• Thorough understanding of system management best practices such as backup, performance monitoring, capacity planning and security.
• Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, SAN technologies, relational databases and client server computing models.
• Foundational understanding of Enterprise Information Technology concepts and practices
• Hands-on experience with Citrix solutions an asset
• Proactive approach to system maintenance and problem avoidance.
• Superior analytical and problem solving skills.
• A well-developed understanding of the need for operational policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication, organizational and teamwork skills.
• The ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
• A College diploma or University degree or relevant job experience in computer science or engineering
